چکیده

The local evanescent array coupled (LEAC) chip-scale sensor is demonstrated for rapid detection of benzene, toluene and xylenes (BTX) in water at sub-ppm concentrations with minimal sample preparation. BTX analytes are found to concentrate into the chip’s Teflon AF upper cladding sensing region, causing an increase in refractive index, which modulates evanescent coupling into the chip’s integrated photodetector array. Integration of the photodetector array simplifies system instrumentation and permits incorporation of an on-chip photocurrent reference region in the immediate vicinity of the sensing region, romatic hydrocarbon sensing

Identification of Groundwater Potential Zones in Moalleman, Iran by Remote Sensing and Index Overlay Technique in GIS

Water plays a vital role in the development of activities in an area. The surface water resources are inadequate to fulfill the water demand. Productivity through groundwater is quite high as compared to surface water, but groundwater resources have not yet been properly exploited. Keeping this view, the present study attempts to select and delineate various groundwater potential zones for the ...

Risk assessment of industrial hydrocarbon release and transport in the vadose zone as it travels to groundwater table: A case study

In this paper, a modeling tool for risk assessment analysis of the movement of hydrocarbon contaminants in the vadose zone and mass flux of contamination release into the groundwater table was developed. Also, advection-diffusion-reaction equations in combination with a three-phase equilibrium state between trapped air, soil humidity, and solid particles of unsaturated soil matrix were numerica...

Bioaccumulation and translocation factors of petroleum hydrocarbons in Aeluropus littoralis

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which consist of fused conjugated aromatic rings, not only are toxic to humans and other living organisms, but will also pollute groundwater. These compounds can be point source or non-point source and are one of the most widespread organic pollutants. Some of them are suspected carcinogens and are linked to other health problems. This study ...

Characterization of plasma-enhanced teflon AF for sensing benzene, toluene, and xylenes in water with near-IR surface plasmon resonance.

Near-IR surface plasmon resonance is used to characterize Teflon AF films for refractive index-based detection of the aromatic hydrocarbon contaminants benzene, toluene, and xylenes in water. The technique requires no sample preparation, and film sensitivity is found to be enhanced by oxygen plasma etching. A diffusion equation model is used to extract the diffusion and partition coefficients, ...

An Integrated Multi-component Phytoremediation System for Removal of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Contaminants from Soil

A number of techniques, both mechanical and biological, have been investigated for the remediation of persistent organic contaminants from soils. However, most of these techniques have been applied independently. As a consequence of using only one process, remediation usually is slow for persistent organic contaminants. To improve remediation, a few techniques that complement different aspects ...
